SURPASS FITNESS   theory and practice

Opening Event Speach

By Natsumi Swain on March 1, 2025

Thanks for coming to our opening. Before I start, I’d like to thank my husband and the people who helped me to create this gym. I couldn't get this done without them.

I liked sports class in school but I didn’t train until when I was 30. I joined a weight loss focused personal training gym to get in shape for my wedding. That got me inspired to train more and learn about fitness and nutrition. In Sydney I was lucky to be exposed to Strength training early on.

After I had my daughter I was totally out of shape and remember being shocked how much muscle and strength had gone. That made me want to rebuild my strength back. I studied to be a personal trainer and became interested in helping others on this journey.

When I retrained after childbirth, it was hard to find the right knowledge or even a trainer that understood the process, so I studied, got certified in how postpartum women can regain their strength safely and created a course to help share this knowledge with others.

Before we moved to New Zealand I was thinking that I wanted to have a small training studio. After a few years operating out of a tiny room in Waikanae, we had the opportunity to take this building. We worked hard to make this gym awesome and we are ready to go today.

I wanted to create a clean, modern strength focused gym where people can train to high standards in a psychologically safe environment.

Physical training is not enough, Surpass Fitness applies a 360 degree approach with strength, nutrition, sleep and mindset all being needed to maximise results and achieve sustainable good health. This idea is core to Surpass Fitness.

I hope some of you can join us on this journey and thank you again for coming today to celebrate this opening.
